Understanding roles and permissions

A role is a category of organizational function. Permissions define privileges for tasks that portal users are allowed to perform. Each QorePortal user is assigned a single role. You can restrict or grant access to privileges within QorePortal based on the user's position, knowledge and responsibility level within the organization. Within QorePortal, there are three default roles that an owner or administrator can assign to users:

  • Owner. This role can include all of the available permissions.
  • Administrator. This role can include all of the available permissions.
  • Reader. This role lets the user view the portal, but does not provide the user privileges to make any changes to systems, users, roles, or organizations.

If none of these roles suit your need, you can create a role. For more information, see Adding, changing, or removing a role.

On the Roles page in the Settings area of the portal, you can assign certain permissions to each role. Permissions include:

  • Systems. This permission lets a user manage and make changes to machines and Cores in the Systems area of the portal.
  • Users. This permission lets a user add and remove users from the portal.
  • Roles. This permission lets you edit the permissions for each role and assign roles to users.
  • Organizations. This permission gives or restricts access based on the organization with which the user is associated.
